How Renting With Castlewood Works

Castlewood owns every apartment and home it rents in Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion and Kenosha, so the people who answer the phone are the people who own the building. This is how it works, from the first call to the day something needs fixing.

1. Find a building

Every building we own is on this site, town by town, with photographs, layouts and a map: Waukegan, North Chicago, Zion and Kenosha.

2. Ask Dan what is open

Call Dan Taylor on (224) 381-2027 with the town and the size you need. He will tell you what is open and arrange a time to see it.

3. Apply when Dan invites you

If a home is a good fit, Dan will invite you to apply and give you the application. You will need a photo ID and proof of income. We accept Section 8 and Housing Choice Vouchers.

4. Hear back

Most applicants hear back within 1 to 2 business days. That is the usual reply time, not a promise of approval. If you have not heard, call Dan on (224) 381-2027.

5. After you move in

Pay rent by mail or at the Chase Bank Waukegan branch, and text Linda Ceja on (847) 858-5846 for any repair. Resident Resources has the details.

How do I apply?

Start by calling Dan on (224) 381-2027. We do not take applications through the website. If a home looks like a good fit, Dan will invite you to apply and give you the application. You will also need a photo ID and proof of income, such as recent paystubs or a benefit letter.

I have a voucher. How do I start?

Tell Dan you have a Section 8 or Housing Choice Voucher when you call. We accept vouchers.

What happens after I apply?

Dan reviews the application and contacts you. Most applicants hear back within 1 to 2 business days; that is the usual reply time, not a promise of approval. If your application is approved, Dan will go through the next steps with you, including the lease and what is due before you move in, which depend on the property.

Are pets allowed?

No. Castlewood’s standard policy is no pets. If you or someone in your household needs an assistance animal, such as a service or support animal, because of a disability, you can ask for a reasonable accommodation. Call Dan on (224) 381-2027 to talk it through.
